Women in Journalism 21 November
After the success of our meeting in May about women in the media, we are returning to the theme this month – this time in a new venue, the Stills Gallery on Cockburn Street. Claire Sawers will be chairing a tremendous panel to discuss topics including:
• the logistics of being a female journalist – from childcare and working flexibility to trying to be heard in male-dominated workplaces and getting ‘female’ articles placed
• Lone working as a woman
• the risk of new media being male dominated
• themes from the recent Women’s STUC conference, such as ‘Cyber Bullying and the Media’, ‘Women’s Total Work Burden’, cuts to social benefits
• women in journalism schools
• Sexual harassment
On the panel are:
Fiona Davidson job-share branch secretary of the NUJ’s Glasgow branch, involved in the new Women in Journalism Scotland @wij_scotland
Rachel Hamada journalist/director of The Ferret
Vikki McCraw photographer who has spent time in Greek refugee camps
Layla Roxanne-Hill job-share branch secretary of the NUJ’s Glasgow branch, involved in the new Women in Journalism Scotland @wij_scotland
Claire Sawers arts journalist/delegate at the recent Women’s STUC conference
